Thanks to the brilliant suggestion of one of our Monthly Cyclers during our last outing, we’ve decided to hold a ‘watch party’ or ‘watch-along’ for the screening of Bicycle Thieves: Pumped Up, which is premiering as part of the Galway Film Fleadh.

The film follows the story of Mags, a delivery cyclist whose bike is stolen in the middle of her shift – the absolute horror:

Mags is a hot-headed pizza delivery cyclist, just about getting by amidst the property crisis in Dublin. She’s struggling to keep her job due to her ferocious temper, and keep up with the rent increases her middle class housemates can afford. She longs to join a collective of Couriers, the highest echelon of bicycle work in the city, but when her bike is stolen and she loses her job, her eviction seems inevitable. With nowhere else to go, Mags must hunt down the thief who stole her bike and steal it right back.

Part investigative thriller, part heist, and part magical-realist action comedy, Bicycle Thieves: Pumped Up is a wild ride from start to finish.

A watch party?

The idea behind an online ‘watch party’ is that everyone agrees to start watching the same thing at the same time, while using a shared hashtag on twitter for comments, reactions, jokes, slaggings, etc.

Our hashtag will be #MCWatchParty.

If you can purchase tickets, access a device at 8:30pm on 23 July next, and get yourself on twitter, then you’re sorted!

(If you want to add in popcorn, a few beverages, perhaps a drinking game or two, well that’s an added bonus!)
